WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED

  • Tell your overview class story narrative here!
  • Highlight what you learned and enjoyed THE MOST for the past three weeks
  • Highlight at least one thing you overcame that was hard for you, at first, an achievement you are proud of.

I think this class was a fun experience to get myself more involved in the music world. I was able to hang out with my friends and even make new ones. I enjoyed being able to learn to play an instrument (somewhat) and being able to work in the studio, and finally I found it very hard to get enough practice in for getting my finger placements right.

THE COURSE’s ACTIVITY EVALUATION (OVERALL)

Content (The WHAT)

Rating: OK  – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5  – HIGHLY ENGAGED

Rating: 4 1/2

Producing music

I learned about the basics and names of guitar

Process (The HOW)

Rating: OK  – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5  – HIGHLY ENGAGED

Rating: 4

I liked how after a while you were able to make your own schedule based on what you wanted to work on

I wasn’t very fond of all the TED talks we had to watched

I’d probably try to make a schedule on what I wanted practice to pace myself

School of Rock – Day 14 – Voice, Preparation, and Presentation

SUMMARY

Write your daily summary last, at the end of the day here… Only one to two sentences.

I turned in my finals, I drew, I listened to everyone’s final, and learned about the origins of Rock & Roll. I was able to learn about the difficulties that they had to face in their lifetime.

LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY

Collab: Someone liked Davids voice, Dawson enjoyed the song in general, AJ liked our cover more than the original

Solo: Someone said holy &(*% that sounds good, Dawson said there was a good switch between normal voice and head voice, Andrew said I reminded him of Taylor Swift and like a Soul singer

Leadership Project (SMART Goal Evidence)

I’ve been working on a cover and at first two collabs. The first collab is with two of my friends, and we were originally gonna work on an original song, but when it flopped we decided to do a cover of Fly Me To The Moon. My second collab was gonna be with Holly, and we also worked on an original song she wrote, but she ended up not feeling up to finishing it, so she decided to just work on a guitar solo. As for my own final, I did a cover of Stay by Rihanna and Mikky

The Art of Stress-Free Productivity: David Allen at TEDxClaremontColleges

  • A crisis forces us to work to towards the goal more
  • Notice on what you have on your mind
  • You don’t have to finish the tasks in your head to get them off your mind
  • You need to get comfortable with the paradox in your brain
  • The initial moves will feel awkward, unnatural, and unnecessary
  • The final paradox is that some very specific behaviors allow you to understand any of the information you forced yourself to learn, can help you become more professional in the field
  • You can respond to either numbing out, or getting busy
  • The issue doesn’t take more time, time isn’t the issue. All you need is room to think (psychological space)
  • Started singing for me and Holly’s collab

STAGE

  • Played three kahoots
  • Listened to student recommended songs

WHAT I LEARNED and PROBLEMS I SOLVED

  • I had trouble getting to focus on one thing, I took a break and got back to work

  • Perfectionism is the art of never being satisfied
  • There never will be a cure for imposter syndrome, but you need to try to critique yourself, but not to much to keep yourself humble and to work harder
  • One simple truth is that life is a b*tch and then you die
  • Yesterday is over, today is already happening, but only you can control what you do moving forward

The Marshmallow Experiment and Delayed Gratification

https://youtube.com/watch?v=TZYIJDtt3mU%3Fstart%3D1%26feature%3Doembed

“…a seemingly simple experiment devised by Walter Mischel to test will power: put a kid in a room with a marshmallow, and tell her if she can resist eating it for 15 minutes, she can have 2 marshmallows. It turns out the kids who could wait were much more likely to be successful as adults. “- RadioLab.org – Your Future in a Marshmallow

  • We talked about the Marshmallow test, which is when you leave your child with a marshmallow or something they want and see their patients
  • Took a break and layed out in the sun with my friends

SUMMARY

In result of the day, I’d say I was able to get plenty of what I wanted done and I happily had fun. I’m glad I got to use the studio longer than usual and get more done. 🙂

LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY

  • During studio time me and my group got to record more of our song, singing the first synchronizing notes and find all the right effects and melody to fit our theme for the song. We then continued to find another kind of beat for the rest of the song.

  • I learned more about the guitar and got to play repeatedly for over an hour. Getting the chance to learn for free and take the opportunity to practice one of the songs I’ve always wanted to play to. I also got another chance to write more songs for the group project which I find to be very fun and interesting.
